Sequins and Sea Breezes: I Hate Cardio

I Hate Cardio

3/20/2014

Happy Thursday! We're almost through the week!
I went to spinning for the second time in like 6 months last night and OMG am I feeling it today. I'm one of those weird people who actually enjoys working out (to an extent...), I go to the gym at least 3-4 times per week  so you'd think taking spinning wouldn't be THAT difficult but jeez was I wrong! I usually do mostly weights and with the exception of the past two spinning classes the extent of my cardio was walking up and down two flights of stairs at work. I'm just going to come right out and say it: I HATE running. So cardio is far from my favorite thing to do. But I watched Zombieland again the other night and I realized that if I don't start doing some cardio again I'm going to end up like this kid:

It doesn't help that bikini season is right around the corner and I spent the past 4 months eating and drinking absolutely whatever I want, whenever I want (it usually was covered in melted cheese and hot sauce and my drinks were usually served in a pint or a wine glass...)  and I don't do well in the cold, which is why I don't live up north any more, so I spent a lot of time indoors hibernating.

It wasn't my usually spinning instructor, which usually means I walk out because I'm very particular about my instructors. If I hate the music their playing or can't understand what they're saying I don't put a whole lot of effort into it but I decided to suck it up and stick around. She actually played awesome music (I swear she just put on the Ying Yang Twins Pandora station) and even though it wasn't the best flow it still kicked my butt! And all I can say is at least it's almost Friday and tonight...

  1. I also hate cardio. Like really hate it. And I am a ballet dancer, so I obviously like exercise. Just not cardio. I try all the time to like it, and it just doesn't happen. :/

  3. Yes!!! Loved this post! Being a former spin instructor (Barre has consumed my life)....ugh I cannot even begin to tell you how much this OCD gal over here the effort and time I put into constructing the perfect class with climbs and sprints! I would totally stress about it but I feel like it's such a difference with a good instructor right? Bathing suit season is stressing me out...cold weather absolutely cheese and wine ugh totally time to get this booty in motion! xoxooxo

    1. I should have known you were once a spin instructor!! :) I used to be obsessed with spin, and kickboxing, and the Les Mills version of Zumba (Sh'Bam) but then they got rid of kickboxing and Sh'Bam so I just took spinning like 3 times a week but I needed to switch it up! I'm obsessed with the flow of the class feeling right. I hate when a song ends and the teacher is still in the middle of a climb and then the song doesn't fit the climb pace! LOL I'm slightly OCD. It totally does make a difference though! I bet I would have LOVED your class!

  4. Girl even if you have been eating whatever you want it is not showing!!! Cardio is tough and I just signed up for my first 5k!! Yikes...i like to do the stair master - but the real one where the stairs are actually moving...that one gets my sweat on!! Spinning is rough...like the next day you're so sore. I want to try soul cycle and i want to try the spin classes where they actually incorporate light weights! That would be fun!

    1. Haha only because I go to the gym 3-4 days a week! But thank you!! :) I've been doing more of the stair climber thingy too! That thing gets super tough when you get tired! I want to try soul cycle too!! I've never seen the one where they incorporate weights... that would be fun! Let me know if you try it!!

  5. I am like you in that I actually like working out. I've been in a slump lately but know that I feel so so much better when I'm regularly exercising. I too love spinning and omg you're so right about being instructor picky. I have been in a class where the music totally ruined it. I almost had to walk out haha...but then I was like ok that's rude, pull it together.

    1. Haha I know! It's so hard to be in a class with horrible music because you just can't get into it as much! My normal instructor is awesome with her music selection so when the class is over I almost never feel like it was a full hour!

  6. I'm not a runner, either (unless I'm being chased, ha), so I totally get where you're coming from. I get my cardio in the form of turbokick classes. I haven't tried spinning (yet), it seems WAY hard. Good for you for getting in there!

    1. Hahaha OMG Ashley!! I seriously tell people that SAME thing! When my friends ask if I want to go for a run I'm like "I don't run, unless I'm being chased. And then I'll consider it". I've never hear of turbo kick but it sounds right up my alley! ;)

  7. You are too funny! I like to think that I'm a good runner but when it comes to scary things chasing me I'd most likely just end up standing in one stop frozen. And I'm like Anna Kendrick, I'm all about the sweatpants! Too perfect ;)

    1. Haha I think if I had something chasing me I'd run in zig zags. Living in Florida they teach you to run like that if an alligator is chasing you but for some reason I think I'd apply it to anything and end up getting caught LOL!
