Sequins and Sea Breezes: Reasons Why You Should Skip Lilly on eBay

Reasons Why You Should Skip Lilly on eBay

4/21/2015

Obviously we all know about the chaos that was the launch of the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection on Sunday. I've chatted about it several times and so has almost every other blogger out there. I guess you could say it was kind of a big deal. I have to admit, I was disappointed when I saw women buying everything off the rack knowing that there was NO way they were fitting into some of the stuff they were picking up and knowing that they were doing it strictly to resell at a much higher cost on eBay. The thought that I should scoop up everything in sight to prevent someone else from getting it and then reselling it never crossed my mind as I was shopping. I could have easily had at least 5 cosmetic cases but to me the resell thing is more of a hassle than anything. However when I got home and saw thousands of items on eBay for WAY more than they were going for in store I definitely wondered if it really was worth it.

After doing some browsing I found so many great Lilly pieces that weren't part of the Target collection (which is made at a lower quality than the regular Lilly collection to make it affordable) that are sold for similar price points to those currently on eBay. Like this dress, this adorable skirt, this cosmetic case and wristlet, this crop top, these shorts... ok, you get the point. I guess what I'm trying to say is before you run out and spend over $100 on a Lilly for Target collection piece on eBay you should see what else is out there and maybe shoot for one of the higher quality Lilly Pulitzer items at similar price points before dropping the cash on the stuff that was made to be $38 quality.I mean, can you really go wrong with any of these pieces and they're definitely cheaper than some of the eBay pieces... if you're going to splurge, might as well splurge for the good stuff, right??

  1. That really is disappointing. There were just a couple of things that I wanted that were online only for my daughter, and of course I didn't get them because of the site crash. Oh well wasn't meant to be. Glad you were able to get a couple of things.

  2. Great post, lady! This Lilly collaboration really brought out the worst in our sex, didn't it? I'm so sad something that could have been awesome turned into such drama. I'll definitely check out the true Lilly on ebay, not the Target collection.

  3. You're totally right - at this point I would much rather buy the original stuff and skip over paying on ebay!! I don't think it's right at all what people are doing, one item is totally fine, but to buy 10 or 15 items that they knew they would never use...it's just not right! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  4. I agree that people shouldn't pay a ton of money for that Target collection for this reason AND so that the people who were greedy jerks don't get rewarded for being jerks. I won't buy any of the items from the Target collection online because it totally defeated the purpose of letting some people try out Lilly at a more reasonable price. When it's the same price as the real Lilly, I'd rather just splurge on one item that I want to try than on something that was meant to sell for $36.

  5. These Target collections can get insaaaaaane- but this Lilly version took it to the next level. Definitely a great tip to hunt for actual Lilly rather than Lilly for Target- better quality is always a plus!

  8. I totally agree! People are so greedy - it's sad! I love these Lilly picks! Gimme all those tote bags. So pretty!!

  9. Mark keep on pulling up dresses on ebay and going "this one is 65 you want that one??" then I'd look and it was an original Lilly dress from this season. Supply and demand. Having seen how a lot of the accessories sandals especially were poor quality might as well just get the original LP!

  10. I couldn't love you more for this post! I'm disgusted by the way some crazies acted at this sale (and love that people like Amanda stood up to them and called them out!), and won't even give them the search or the clicks on ebay.

  11. I cannot believe how crazy all the chaos has been for this! I read somewhere that items are selling for hundreds of dollars over the value from the Target/Lilly collection on eBay! That's just nuts! I also loooveee those wedges you have posted up there, lady! xo

  12. Great point! Ill be honest her stuff really isn't my style, it is all very cute, just not me, so I had a really hard time understanding why there was so much chaos! It really is silly to be taking things off a rack that you know won't fit you just to try and make a buck off of it. I think you're right, if you're willing to spend jacked up prices on the target stuff, you may as well just buy some of her higher quality stuff!

  13. That's funny I was telling Griffin this weekend, why would people put Lily for Target on eBay for a high price?? Uhh they could just buy the real thing then! I heard that the quality was pretty bad on the Lilly for Target too. People are soooo ridiculous!!!!!

  16. Preach, girl! I so agree with you - if you're going to pay the extreme eBay price, you might as well go for the real, high-quality thing!

  17. i refuse to buy anything off eBay that is from a target collection. that makes me so mad. they don't even want it. i'll just buy the real thing instead.

  18. My sister was talking about this yesterday while we were chatting. People are crazy. When I was in high school and college (more in college) I had a ton of Lily dresses. My mom would buy them for me when they would go on sale at Saks. Now I feel like I'm too old to wear them. I would rather go to Saks when they're on sale instead of going on ebay to get one though!! :-)

  19. I agree!! Honestly, they should have put a limit on how many items you could buy, especially with such LIMITED quantities. Ugh!

  20. I am 100% with you. The pieces you picked are lovely and quality is worth it! The whole Target thing is ridiculous and I am so glad you did a post in regards to it and ebay!!!!! It's what many of us were probably thinking and you said it perfectly. xo

  21. You already know I'm in total agreeance with you on this! Might as well buy real Lilly if you're going to pay that much! Plus, Lilly offers free gifts with purchase all the time, so it's a better deal anyways!

  22. I came home, happy with what I got, super disappointed in how people behaved... and then I went on Lilly's regular site and ordered some things that I had my eye on for a while. True LP quality is unbeatable and the pieces are happy and last a lifetime. As fun as the Target ones are, I don't think they will last a third as long. I just was shocked at how people behaved!

  23. Yep totally agree! Why pay over $100 for a target desinger when you could go get the real stuff instead?!

  24. Amen to this! I would never pay $100 for a $30 Lilly Target shirt... after all, it's still Target!

  25. The chaos over that still shocks me - have people actually been buying stuff online at inflated prices? That seems so ridiculous!

  26. Yes yes yes! The part that bums me out the most about this launch was the fact that people were just buying items to turn around and sell them on eBay. So not fair - I feel like Target should limit the number of pieces you purchase to try and avoid this!

  27. I really am so disgusted in people. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I buy things on clearance or at goodwill knowing I can get more money for them on eBay - but I would never buy a bunch of stuff like this when other people clearly want it - that's so unfair!

  28. I am so with you!! The ladies who are spending tons and tons of money on Lilly for ebay, need to take a step back and realize that they could get true Lilly quality for just a little more money anywhere else!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ugh, I am so disappointed people did this. I totally agree with you that at this point it is better to go with real Lilly. Plus TJMaxx usually has some nice Lilly pieces as an alternative. :)

  30. I would never in a million years buy something that was made for Target on ebay for any more than Target was charging for it. That is just ridiculous!!! I hope those women sit on their excessive amounts of Target Lilly!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love this post girl! I totally agree with you!

  32. You have a great point! It's a shame people do that. I didn't even know about the whole launch until the blog world exploded on Monday. Some of her pieces are cute but others are way too colorful for me!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You are spot on, great post! I can't believe people are reselling it in eBay for as much as they are! Xo, Stephanie

  34. Could not agree more!! I can't believe people are stupid enough to pay $75 for basically fake Lilly on ebay when you can spend $100 for the real thing! The whole thing is just insane!

  35. You are SO right! This is what pissed me off the most about the whole situation. I hate when people manipulate situations. Great post and finds, girlfriend! xo

  36. Totally agree with this! It’s so rude to me that people would clean the racks just to re-sell. I’d much rather buy the original Lilly than a marked up Target version!

  37. This is such a great point. I couldn't believe it when M told me that she saw a woman empty an entire rack of clothing into her cart...the thought simply never occurred to me!

  38. Am I the only crazy one who could wait until Target restocked? We all know it's going to happen! Why go spend all that money on ebay items and satisfy the women who are trying to make a buck off of reselling?!
    Love your finds, girl!

  39. I totally agree. I saw so many people buying just to resell. It's so disheartening. People just need to not buy on ebay even if the item is only ten dollars above retail. You totally can get original Lilly for less then these jerks are selling on ebay. The store I went to had a limit but some of the cashiers were not enforcing it. It was just a disaster and to be honest, I blame both companies and am disappointed in how they are trying to now spin it. In the future, I would think more carefully before I buy from either company.

  40. I cannot believe people would go on ebay to buy the target brand when they could get the real stuff on Nordstrom for just a little bit more. Ridiculous. Honestly (gasp) I didnt' even know about Lilly until I saw everyone posting about it. I'm glad I didn't go over to Target cause I'm sure all of the looting would have made me crazy,.

  41. So much greed! I would have loved a few of the home or beauty items but it wasn't worth the hassle-- and i'm glad I didn't get my hopes up after how crazy it sounded! It seems insane that people would pay more for the Target Lily collection on ebay when you can get actual Lily for the same price!
