Sequins and Sea Breezes: Adventures in Real Life

Adventures in Real Life

2/18/2015

Happy Humpday dolls! I don't usually post too much about my personal life, and I try not to ran too much but today I just can't help it. Last night I had plans to edit some photos and write a nice little blog post but real life got in the way. And since I don't have too many... interesting (?) experiences to share I had to write about this one. Not to mention, I try REALLY hard to understand what people in the service industry go through but sometimes there's just no excuse.

So with the rain and cold front moving through yesterday I had exactly zero motivation to go to the gym. I had to take my pup to the vet any way so I figured skip the gym, skip making dinner and go out to dinner. I have also been wanting a bike for awhile so I finally found one I really liked so I figured I'd grab that while I was out. I ordered the bike online for pick up in store near the restaurant I was going to for dinner, they said it would be ready for pick up in about 2 hours so I thought that was perfect. Easy peasy, right? I wish. So we get to dinner and they're reasonably busy but nothing crazy. I put our names in and the lady hands over the pager thing and tells us its going to be 5-15 minutes. Cool. Numerous people come in after us... all who are seated before us. I decide to be patient, maybe they called ahead, and wait it out. After 11 people who came in after us and 20 minutes my patience finally broke. And boy do I mean broke. I was hungry and over it. So I went up to the hostess and asked her how much longer it was going to be (oh this is after I finally got her attention) and she tells me "Oh haha! Whoops! I accidentally put your name on the call ahead list not the waiting list! It's a good thing you came up here to check or you'd be sitting there all night!". No apology, no "I messed up", nada. At this point steam is literally coming out of my ears. We won't get into the things I said after I walked away but trust me, it's a really good thing I HADN'T been seated yet because if I had a knife, I would have cut a bitch. The rest of dinner went fine, I had a nice giant adult beverage to calm my irritation and then proceeded to the store to pick up my bike which I was e-mailed saying it was ready.

And here goes round two. I get to the store and the last bike they had in stock  was waiting for me up front. Yay! With a flat tire. Awesome. They weren't sure whether there was a problem with the tire or whether it just needed air. It turned into a fairly long process of them trying to locate the bike in a store in Central Florida that didn't have a flat tire. There were UPC code miscommunications, computer mix ups, and LOTS of waiting at Customer Service. To keep this story from dragging on any longer than it already has... similar to how my night went actually, I ended up taking the bike with the flat tire. They were really nice and gave me $25 off the bike and we managed to get  it into my car (I was definitely worried about that). I'd say to make a long story short but let's be real, this was a long story. So maybe I'll end with "the moral of the story is" sometimes real life gets in the way of blogging life. Although sometimes I prefer blogging life.

Hope everyone has a fantastic rest of the week, it's all down here from here, right?

  8. Hope your drink was yummy because at this point - that seems like about the only high point of your night. Well that and $25 off! Don't you hate it when people are rude like that? David always reminds me that it's a chance to work on my patience. Because that always makes a frustrating and stressful situation better.

  12. It's honestly refreshing to hear when other bloggers have meltdowns and "life gets in the way of my schedule" problems. It makes me feel more human and less crazy :) So thank you for sharing! PS. I would have had a meltdown too if I was waiting to eat and then there wasn't even an apology or meal comp for the screw up. Hope today's a better day, doll!

  15. I would have lost it on that hostess. I get grouchy when I'm hungry. I hope they gave you a free drink or something to make up for it. And how aren't they sure if something is wrong with the tire or not? Ah I hope your week gets better.

  16. Customer service is one of my biggest pet peeves and I cannot stand when businesses hire people who don't have that drilled into them. I almost died when you said cut a bitch - totally my line, and you were totally right in it! I'm sorry all of that happened!! Today is a new, better day :)

  19. Ugh, what a rough night! I get mistakes are made and what not and I usually do try to be patient, but when someone doesn't even apologize that is just rude and people who can't apologize for their mistakes should not be in the service industry. Good news though...your bike is adorable! I live for my beach cruiser, they are so much fun!

  31. Isn't a Hostess's main job to put people down for reservations?! How do you accidentally put someone on the wrong list & not realize it? Or apologize?! Of course the bike would have a flat tire after the dinner fiasco! So glad you were able to take the bike home in the end and hopefully the tire just needs a little air- your bike is so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha, girl you get hangry! We would totally get along (but not while hungry of course ;)) In all seriousness, what an annoying night!! I'm so sorry!
LOVE your bike! You're going to have so much fun with it once you get the tire fixed. Also, I would bet money that hostess doesn't keep her job for much longer... What a stupid mistake on her part!

  33. I really dislike discourteous service people. I really would have cut a bitch haha. Glad everything worked out in the end and you got a discount on the bike in spite of the flat!
