Happy Monday friends! I know what you're thinking... "who the heck is this random person popping up out of nowhere?" Trust me, I had almost forgotten how to use this thing it's been so long. But I got the chance to check out the 30th anniversary celebration at one of my favorite Disney parks so I just had to share it with you! Most people immediately think of Magic Kingdom or Epcot when they think of Disney but Hollywood Studios has always been one of my favorites ever since I was a little kid. It was my favorite park during Christmas time because of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights (which is sadly no longer a "thing"), Tower of Terror is still one of my favorite rides and the Brown Derby Lounge will forever be one of my favorite spots to relax, get a bite to eat and of course a delicious margarita.
May 1st happened to be the 30th Anniversary of Disney's Hollywood Studios and of course in true Disney fashion, they put on a great celebration! From amazing shows to delicious snacks, I knew I had to check it out so after work I headed over there to see what the buzz was all about. Of course we headed straight for the desserts because where else other than Disney is it perfectly acceptable to have dessert before dinner? I knew I wanted to try the Minnie Mouse Celebration Cake and my friend wanted to try the Mickey Mouse Celebration Cake so off to Backlot Express we went.
The Minnie Celebration Cake is yellow cake with strawberry cream, strawberry marshmallow and strawberry crispy pearls. I loved the cupcake but wasn't a fan of the marshmallow top. It was a little dense for my liking and very thick. Luckily it came off pretty easy which left me to enjoy my cake, which was filled with a strawberry cream, and those yummy crispy pearls. The Mickey Celebration Cake was a chocolate sponge cake with chocolate cream and a vanilla marshmallow with sprinkles. My friend said the same thing about the marshmallow but said the cake was amazing and the sprinkles in the shape of tiny Mickey heads were so cute! Next up was the Key Lime Pie Verrine from Backlot Express or Rosie's All American Cafe.
If you like key lime pie, which happens to be my favorite, you definitely need to get this! It's basically a deconstructed key lime pie so you get a little bit of everything in every bite. I wasn't the biggest fan of whatever the nuts were on top but the white chocolate candy piece on top mixed in really well with the rest of the flavors and it was actually bigger than I expected so even though I wanted to try the Lightsaber Churros, after this I didn't have room!
If you follow me on Instagram you already know this fun little fact but if you don't, did you know that the only set of Audrey Hepburn's handprints in the world can be found at Disney's Hollywood Studios? After doing her handprints at Hollywood Studios, Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood asked her to do a set for their theater but she politely declined making Disney the only place you can put your hands in her prints!
There are a ton of exciting things happening at Hollywood Studios right now so if you haven't been in awhile, you should definitely check it out! Toy Story Land is one of my favorite areas to walk around and be a kid again. Nothing brings out my competitive side like Toy Story Mania and who doesn't love seeing the monkeys from a Barrel of Monkeys strung about? With Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opening later this year, Hollywood Studios is about to become the most popular Disney park for awhile so I'll be enjoying it as much as I can before I take a little break to let the Star Wars fandom die down a little... just a little because let's be real, I'm dying to check it out myself!
