Obviously I'm not a DIY blogger and let's face it, I'm not overly crafty but I saw this little project on Pinterest and decided to give it a try and I had to share it! I was using a Starbucks coffee mug to hold my pens in a work until we ran out of cups at work and I had to wash it out to actually use it for coffee (crazy, I know). At that point I decided I wanted something else to hold my pens and I wanted it to sparkle. I took to Pinterest and found these DIY glitter mason jars that someone had used as a flower vase and thought "why not"? They're cute, they're sparkly... win/win in my book! How I did mine varies slightly from the way the Pin did it so I included how I did mine below! I went out after work and bought all the supplies at Michael's and got to work! The lighting on the pictures isn't the greatest, sorry. It was raining outside and I don't have the best lighting in my living room but I think you can get the idea. I was pretty happy with how it turned out; the lovely mason jar is sitting on my desk filled with pens (and a pair of scissors) as we speak and my coffee mug is free to be used when needed!
DIY Glitter Mason Jar
Materials: -Mason Jar {I got mine for $1.99 from Michael's} -Mod Podge {I used the glossy finish but the site I got the idea from used matte} -Gold Glitter {I used thick glitter because I plan on using it for something else but you can get the fine glitter and it would work fine} -Foam Brush -Acrylic Sealer
I took my foam brush and dipped it into the Mod Podge and then coated the bottom and sides of the mason jar as far up as I wanted the glitter to go. You can either do the entire jar or go about half way up like I did. Next comes the fun part, which I did document but the picture came out blurry so I didn't post it, pour some glitter into the mason jar (you don't need to put a ton in there but if you over pour the good part is you can save the glitter you don't use!) and put the lid back on the jar. Then shake what ya momma gave ya (ok really you just need to shake the jar but why not blast some music and dance away with the jar) and cover the Mod Podge in glitter. You will still be able to see the Mod Podge through the glitter so have no fear if it looks like glue is holding the glitter on! Next walk away and let it dry for a few hours. Once the Mod Podge has dried (it should dry clear so if it's still hazy looking it probably needs to dry a bit longer) pour the excess glitter out, or back into the container and then you can seal the glitter with the spray (I HIGHLY recommend doing this outside or in a well ventilated area... otherwise you might pass out or kill some brain cells in the process. This stuff does not smell overly pleasant) and again let it dry. Then, voilà! You have a cute, sparkly mason jar!

Wish List Wednesday - Things That Sparkle

With Christmas right around the corner, I thought it might be fun to do some wish lists for the holidays and what better way to start than with things that sparkle! Adding a bit of sparkle to any outfit is a great way to feel a bit glam even on the gloomiest of days. Even something as simple as a sparkly belt or sequin clutch can catch your eye in a room full of people. Here are a few of my wish list things that sparkle. Let me know what yours are!
1. Kate Spade - All That Glitters Emanuelle Clutch - How amazing is this clutch? It'd be the perfect clutch to take out on New Years Eve or just to take out to a fabulous dinner. 2. Deborah Lippmann - Cleopatra In New York - You shouldn't be surprised that I chose a black and gold nail polish (UCF after all!) but I love the contrast in this nail polish. Perfectly glam and fun at the same time. 3. Gap - Skinny Glitter Belt - You can add this to jeans, a dress, or a skirt to just add a pop of sparkle to anything. I love how easy skinny belts are to pair with any outfit! 4. Express - Sequin Infinity Scarf - Who says you can't be sparkly while all bundled up? This sequin scarf can brighten up even the cloudiest of winter days. 5. Converse - All Star Glitter Sneaker - I love Converse so when I found these glitter Converse, love at first sight. I'll be buying these for next year's football season! 6. Tobi - Sequin Skater Skirt - This skirt is so perfect for any season. You can pair it with tights for the fall/winter and a crop top for the spring/summer. 7. Bauble Bar - Pave Pyramid Bangle - I love the three tones in this set. They go perfect with any color and the sparkle gives them an extra pop. 8. Urban Decay - Sidecar - This is one of my all time favorite eye shadows. It's part of the Naked palette and I love that the subtle glitter makes it acceptable for day to night wear. 9. Target - Xhilaration Cateye Sunglasses - Cateye sunglasses are SO in right now. These add a bit of sparkle and shine to your retro look. 10. Michael Kors - Wren Black Tone Stainless Watch - Michael Kors can do no wrong in my book. I don't think I've ever seen something of his I wasn't in love with so this gorgeous rhinestone two-tone watch is no exception. 11. Juicy Couture - I'm So Posting This Glitter Phone Case - I saw this and couldn't stop laughing. That's pretty much exactly what I'm thinking when I see my friend's doing something silly while I'm taking a pic of them. 12. Sophie & Trey - Shine Bright Sweater - Ah my favorite little boutique. You knew I couldn't leave them out! I get my NYE outfit from them every year (when I pick it out, I'll let you know!) but in the meantime, this adorable sequin star sweater is perfect for those chilly days. 13. Steve Madden - Champagne T-Strap Rhinestone Heels - What better way to dress up that perfect LBD then with these strappy and glittery heels? "Nuff said. 14. American Eagle Outfitters - Sequin Crop Cardigan - This would be so cute paired with a simple tank and jeans or over top a cute dress. Dress it up or down, you decide!
