Sequins and Sea Breezes: Deland Bacon & Brew Fest

Deland Bacon & Brew Fest

10/02/2017

Happy Monday and October friends! One of the things I love about living in Orlando is there is no shortage of things to do. Of course most of these things can be extremely touristy or expensive but we do have a lot of "local" festivals that we love to check out as well and this weekend happened to be one of them, the Deland Bacon & Brew Fest. A few months ago you might remember that my friend who own's a brewery in Melbourne put on his own bacon and beer fest so if say bacon and beer there's a 90% chance I'll be there even on a rainy, gross day like it was on Saturday.
Not being biased or anything but my friends bacon and beer bash was executed MUCH better than this festival. In fact, with the exception of the band and the bacon (and especially the deep fried bacon), this festival was actually incredibly disappointing. We purchased the sampling pass which allowed us to get 10 samples from the 125 different craft beer and winery vendors at the event. Sounds like a lot, right? Wrong. The festival started at 1 pm, we got there around 2-2:30 pm and by the time we got there more than half the vendors we're already out of beer. We were only actually able to get samples from 4 different vendors and the lines for those vendors were incredibly long. Luckily Goose Island came prepared and they had plenty of beer to sample so just to use up our tickets since they were not offering refunds (and actually threatened to arrest people for complaining or asking for a refund) we went back to the Goose Island tent 3 times. All in all, it was fun getting to hang out with friends and walk around but I won't be going back. But hey, not everything can be executed great, right? You live and learn! Hope everyone has a fantastic week!

  1. What a bummer about what you were actually able to taste - do you think you'll be able to get some of your money back because the vendors weren't prepare? Still a fun weekend thing to do and BACON :) Happy Monday girl! xo, Biana-BlovedBoston

  2. I've always wanted to go to a bacon festival. Sorry to hear this one was a big disappointment! How can they run out of beer so early? What on earth? At least you found a tent to make use of all your extra tickets but still you paid for a sample pass. Hope this week goes smoothly for you! xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  9. I can't believe how unprepared the festival people were! I feel like if you say bacon and beer you're pretty much guaranteed to get a crowd, so the vendors should be prepared! I'm glad that you were still able to get your tastings in, although I'm sure that it would have been more fun if they were from different vendors!

  10. The concept of this sounds amazing but that stinks so many of the vendors were already out of beer. It sounds like a lot better planning needs to go into this. Yummy, deep fried bacon! xo, Sierra Beautifully Candid

  12. We were planning on going to this because beer and bacon, but didn't because of the weather. I was super bummed we didn't brave the rain for it, but now I'm glad we didn't waste our time. I remember feeling the same way about the cheese festival in Deland. They throw what could be awesome events, but never seem to be prepared for the amount of people who will attend. Hopefully this and last year's cheese festival will be a learning curve for next time. What you did get looks delish, and now I'm totally craving bacon!

  21. Oh no, that's a serious bummer! I've been to a few food fests where all the good stuff sells out fast. No good! I'm sorry it was less than the best, but that just means the next can only be better!

  25. I'm glad you still had a good time with your friends even though that's crazy so many places ran out of beer that quickly & they wouldn't issue refunds! The bacon all looks delicious though!
