Sequins and Sea Breezes: March Birchbox Review

March Birchbox Review

3/18/2014

Yay, it's that time of the month again! I love getting new products to test and try out and share my opinions on them with you! I will say, lately I've been a bit disappointed with my Birchboxes so I've been thinking about making the switch to FabFitFun for awhile and see how that goes. Recently Birchbox seems to be sending out less product samples and the samples you do get are extremely small. Has anyone tried out FabFitFun already? I've heard mixed things about them but heard the value of the boxes is great.

For the March Birchbox they decided to go with a "Spring Forward" theme and include products that allow you to maximize your daily routine without spending more time on it. I'm all for beauty shortcuts, especially since up until recently my skin care regimen consisted of maybe taking all of my makeup off before going to bed depending on how tired I was. Horrible, I know. Now that I've gotten older I'm definitely more into using different products, masks, etc to help keep my skin looking as youthful as possible. Unfortunately I spend a LOT of time outside in the sun and since it's Florida and the sun is out a lot I spend a lot of time squinting (my eyes are ridiculously sensitive to light) so I already have quite a few freckles and fine lines/wrinkles from it that I'm now trying to fix. If any one has any amazing products the know of, let me know! ;)

1. Air Repair Rescue Balm - This doesn't have the greatest scent in my opinion but then again it is a "miracle" product and how many great products do you know of that also smell amazing? So far I've only used this on my cuticles but I've read of other people using it on their lips and had great results. I'm a bit hesitant to try it on my lips as my lips are super sensitive and this balm has lanolin in it and I've had bad reactions to lanolin in the past. It has a similar texture to Vaseline but it almost feels smoother and seems to last longer. I love that it doesn't feel oily but with the lanolin in it I'm not sure I'd purchase it myself.

2. Harvey Prince Cherie Blossom - I absolutely love this scent!! It's so delicate and light, the perfect scent for Spring if you're looking for something not too overwhelming or heavy. It's a hypoallergenic, cruelty-free scent that smells like cherry blossoms and a hint of citrus and vanilla. Most of the time when I think of floral scents I think of heavier scents that an old lady would wear but this is the complete opposite of that. My only complaint is the scent seems to wear off rather quickly. After lunch time I can only very lightly smell the scent and usually I can't at all by the time I get home from work.

3. stila lip glaze - I used to use this exact same stila lipgloss when I was in high school/early college so it made me laugh a little when I opened the box and saw it in there. It did remind my of how much I like the stila lipglosses though! I love that the applicator is like a paintbrush instead of the normal wand but recently I've found myself preferring stains instead of glosses. This lipgloss provides a nice sheer coverage with just a hint of color so it's not too intense and can be worn daily. The smell of the lipgloss definitely doesn't match the name of it but it has a pleasant smell so that's definitely a plus. The only downside is that it feels a bit sticky on but the heaviness means you don't have to reapply as often!

4. Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum - I honestly wish I had heard of this stuff years ago because it would have been perfect to start using earlier in life for me. This moisturizer contains a broad-spectrum SPF 30 and also contains vitamins E and B5 to combat previous sun damage. My favorite part of this is that it's fragrance and paraben free so it's great on sensitive skin. It's very lightweight and not greasy and seems to do a great job at protecting my skin from the sun. I haven't worn it enough yet to determine whether or not it really does help with anti-aging, and to be honest I don't know how you could really prove that any way but it's definitely a product I'd use again regardless of the potential anti-aging effects.

  1. I am all about fresh scents!! I feel the same way about Stila lip glosses- good in theory but just too sticky...same with MAC ones as well! I pretty much love anything dealing with Guiliana Rancic so her box is probably fabulous as well & pricey lol!

  5. That is like the best Birchbox I've seen! I had to cancel mine I literally kept on getting the same products every month (Moroccan Hair Oil) even after I changed my profile. That super goop stuff is awesome. Start putting sunscreen on the top of your hands....you will thank me in 30 years ;-) xoxoxo

I used their CC cream for awhile and really liked it too! I get a lot of the same stuff too, I think that's why I'm going to make the switch!
