Summer Layers
9/01/2015
Happy first day of September! Fall is quickly moving in for most of my friends up north. Of course here in Florida it's still summer until at least October so I haven't really gotten to enjoy those cooler temperatures yet but that doesn't mean I haven't started pulling out some of my favorite fall looks already. Let's be real, I was rocking the booties weeks ago and I even broke out my leather skirt last month (with some strange looks I might add) so I decided to already start transitioning some of my maxis into more fall appropriate as well.
I love wearing maxi dresses, you can look cute and stylish but still be incredibly comfortable. How is that not a win? But sometimes a strapless or tank top maxi dress isn't appropriate in cooler temperatures. Obviously the easy fix would be to throw a jean jacket over it and head out the door but I decided to pair mine with an oversized tee shirt instead. It's seriously the most comfortable tee shirt I own so I have it in like 3 different colors and wear them with everything. Looking through these pictures I realized I touch my hair. A lot. It was actually hard finding pictures where I wasn't touching my hair. So I'm going to make a conscious effort to try and stop doing that so much but it's hard to figure out what to do with your hands sometimes! Taking blog pictures can be so awkward!
dress: old {similar here} / tee shirt: ae / sandals: tory burch / crossbody: louis vuitton pochette {super old but I just bought a new strap for it} / sunglasses: rayban / watch: michael kors / bracelets: alex and ani / rings: here, here and here / necklaces: here, here and here / lips: mac in snob

Love how you knotted that tee over the dress, so cute!
ReplyDeleteThe knotted tee is such a fun twist on your dress, love the idea and you pull it off so well.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you bought a strap for your LV - I 100% bet you'll be getting so much more wear out of it especially as a cross body!! I love the addition of adding a tee to the maxi dress - gives it another life!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun way to wear a maxi dress multiple ways!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so good! I just love stripes!

I love this look!!! And I understand the awkward photo thing.. I haven't taken any in awhile but I remember feeling the same way. I think you look great, though! :)
ReplyDeleteSuper love it!

I would never have thought to layer a maxi like this, but I love it - it definitely gives the dress a fresh spin!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love how you layered the tee over your Maxi! That's a great idea to bring it into cooler weather! Love that you got a new strap for your LV bag! It's adorable and like new again!

Throwing a tee over a maxi is such a great idea. I love getting more wear out of things I buy. I'm a total hair toucher too, but I realized I do it all day long not just in pictures!
ReplyDeletelove these layers on you--genius idea and a way to get more uses out of a piece. you look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYES! love this idea. I have this gorgeous navy maxi I love but it is waaay too boobalicious for some times and in Rome I didn't want to wear a jacket everywhere, so I would throw a tee over it. I'm obsessed with doing that now, such an easy way to change up your outfit!
ReplyDeleteLoving this cute, simple outfit!! I actually wear an outfit that looks SO similar to this right now (its a maxi skirt and thinner stripes) but of course it doesn't look nearly as cute as this! Might have something to do with my enlarged behind and belly ;) ha ha!! On Friday it actually cools down to a high of 97-99 and I am SO EXCITED! I'm contemplating pulling out the Fall decor on that day because it's such a nice cool down ;) ha ha! Arizona has ruined me!
ReplyDeleteI love how you paired this with a shirt - such a great idea. And who cares about the hair touching - you look FABULOUS! You make taking pictures look easy and natural, when lets face it - it's hard work, I always feel so awkward lol. Kids and Cabernet
ReplyDeleteLove this whole outfit!!! Your hair looks fab too, so I don't blame you for touching it. :-) And girl it's still summer here!! At least until October. Sigh. Anyways.. you look beautiful and I hope that you have a great day today!!
ReplyDeleteSimple, elegant, and easy to replicate. My favorite types of outfit posts. (: Crazy to think you still have summer until October. That's when us Ohioans expect snow. (; Enjoy your warm weather!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great outfit. Comfortable but very stylish. Love how you knotted the tee.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea to throw the t-shirt on over! I've done button up shirts on top of maxis, but not tshirts. I sometimes wish that we got cooler weather quicker, but then I remember how much I dislike winter and I'm okay with sandals and sundresses.

Isn't it summer in Florida year round lol? I love this combo! I would've never thought to put two and two together.

ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite way to wear my maxi dresses into fall! Although I can't use a t-shirt... I usually have to wear a sweater over them instead, ha!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is with me at work today and I just looked over and realized she is wearing the almost EXACT same outfit as you! She has on the same striped maxi skirt and black top! She paired hers with a white denim vest though. So funny!
ReplyDeleteI'm cracking up about you touching your hair - blog photos can be so awkward, just do what feels natural to you! :) Loving this outfit, lady!
ReplyDeleteThose necklace layers are perfection!!

Such a smart idea throwing the tshirt over! Laughing girl it is so hard to take pictures and not laugh, touch hair or stare off into space right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteBring on the fall weather!!!!!!!!! I am loving the maxi, so cute. I will probably start pulling out the fall colored clothes that are still shaped like summer lol. Darn heat!
ReplyDeleteI'd never think to wear a T over a maxi - so cute!! Love that look on you. And agree - maxis are so comfy, I always wear them when I travel now. :)
ReplyDeleteYES! Taking blog pictures can be so awkward! You look great. It's ok if you touch your hair :) I have to make an effort to not always do the same pose.

Gorgeous Maxi looks fabulous A great first day outfit for September
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of throwing a Tee over a maxi to mix it up a bit. It would also be more work appropriate in our casual work attire environment than a strapless/no sleeve maxi. And you're so right about not know what to do with your hands in pictures. It's an awkward thing that I noticed when I did my first couple photo shoots.
ReplyDeleteCute outfit! Love the striped skirt!

Love how you threw that tee over your dress. And YES- it can be awkward sometimes. I'm always thinking- I've done this pose before... WHAT ELSE can I do?!?! hahah
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous :) Love what you did with the knot. I'm all about stripes.
ReplyDeleteliz jo @ sundays with sophie
I love that you put a knot in the shirt to tighten it up a bit! And I always touch my hair too. I bet it would get greasy a lot less fast if I didn't!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of people who are "comfortable in front of the camera" because I hate taking blog pictures, too! #awkward You look like a natural, through! I love love love a maxi!!
ReplyDeleteReally like that. A maxi skirt and a little knot on the side is the right kind of style! Stripes are really ideal for summer! Have a nice day!
ReplyDeletecute look
ReplyDeleteI adore the way you knotted the tee! And I'm always a huge fan of black and white... and maxis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great fashion!
