My Workout Routine
7/31/2017
Is anyone else as surprised today is the last day of July as I am? I feel like this month/summer completely flew by. I had plans to really kick up my workout routine this summer... and go dairy free and neither of those happened but surprisingly I still get a ton of comments and questions about my workout routine so I figured today was as good a day as any to talk about my workout routine! First off I want to say, I am in no way a nutritionist or a fitness expert so just because something works for me, doesn't mean it will work for someone else. And I would suggest if you aren't very active to start slow and work your way up before tackling an intense workout. While I'm not the most in-shape person ever, I am pretty active not just at the gym so I feel like I can push myself a little harder.
I used to work out 6 times a week until I realized that my body needed some rest periods. I started getting really bad shin splints and I was sore more of than I wasn't so I took a step back and cut back the number of times I worked out. Listening to your body and not overdoing it is extremely important. Currently I work out between 3-4 times a week and for me it's perfect.
Monday and Wednesdays are usually my weight days. I generally break it out by upper body and lower body, starting with upper body Monday. I do a mix of free weights, cables and machines and I occasionally throw in some TRX workouts to switch it up. I often do a lot of my free weights and TRX exercises on a StrongBoard Balance Board to get a little extra out of it. Wednesday I mix it up between lower body and core using a mix of machines and a stability ball.
Thursdays are my cardio days which aren't my favorite days but like you learned from Zombieland, the first rule of Zombieland is cardio. In the event of a zombie takeover, you don't want to be the slowest kid on the block. Ok, I kid, but seriously; cardio is an important part to fitness. In the cooler months I prefer to get outside and run but when it's as hot as it is outside right now, I tend to stick to either cardio classes like spinning or Zumba or a 30-45 minute HIIT workout on the treadmill.
The weekends I try to get at least one workout in on top of going out and just being active. Usually if I workout on Saturday I'll do an early morning Boot Camp workout before it gets too hot outside that consists of a bunch of different burst training exercises. If I workout on Sunday I try to make it more of a relaxing one so I'll take a yoga class to unwind before starting the week.
If you hate going to the gym (and if you do, I don't blame you at all) get outside! I used to love going to Disney because it would be a guarantee I'd get several miles of walking in while having fun. I'm also a huge fan of being out on the water, paddle boarding and kayaking are both great workouts that you don't really have to have any skill to do. I also love barre classes for a nice full body workout not in a gym! I hope this helps give you some ideas or maybe some motivation. I'm headed to yoga to start my day now so hope everyone has a great week!

Get it girl!! Working out during the week for me isn't a problem it's undoing it all on the weekend LOL!! I love your routine and that you do your own thing during the week and it's clearly working because you look amazing as always! xo,Biana-BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteLove that you change it up with barre and classes. It can be so hard to mix it up and I always get addicted to one thing and then get in a rut. Reading this makes me even more excited to get back in the gym asap!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great workout routine figured out! I use to run 5 days a week too and I had to take a step back. Shin splints are no joke! Thanks for sharing your routine. Happy Monday!

Good for you girl!! And you look great! My goal when I turned 30 as to start working out. LOL! It hasn't happened yet....but I am holding out hope. My husband runs and works out everyday, and I am like, yea I'll join you one of these days. Does running after four kids count as cardio?
ReplyDeleteGet it girl- you are getting after it! I was in a better workout groove and then work has kicked my booty, so I'm trying to get back in the grind! Ps- that tank is so perfect for you!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your shirt!! So cute! I workout 4 days a week and most of it is my stability ball class which I love. And Fridays are cardio day! It is fun to switch it up!
ReplyDeleteyou're my lil workout queen! seriously i need to get motivated but don't i say that every week haha. def always good to mix the weight training and cardio - something not many do! so key though. have a good week!

You are just so fit and fab so I loved reading your work-out routine! Cardio days are my LEAST favorite too but good point about the zombies haha! Happy Monday!!

I love reading about other's workouts! I still need to try a barre class!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!! I love love love love your tshirt!! So adorbs!! I have been trying to work out more but with work being crazy its hard. To get more exercise during the day, I walk the steps a few times again. I haven't yet mastered walking up 17 floors yet but I'm trying.
ReplyDeleteGet it girl! I used to work out 5-6 days a week as well, and have scaled back to 4. And shin splints are no joke! And yes to cardio, and not being the slowest kid on the block even though I probably still would be ha! Love how you mix it up, and you know how much I love that tee <3

I want to live by Disney, I need that excuse to walk! My workout routine is a lot like yours! I was working out 5-6 days a week earlier this year and felt like I was killing myself. Constantly in pain! So I've slimmed down to 3-4 days a week and it's working perfectly! I do need to add a little more cardio, but blah cardio! I do love a good spin class. :-D

Loved hearing about your workout routine! I used to be the same way and workout 6 days a week but it made me really tired. I now workout 4 days a week and that's the perfect schedule. Love your top! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, lady! I would kill for your toned legs. I'm with you that 3-4 workouts a week is plenty. Rest is just as important as exercise so our muscles can recover!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good workout! I do long distance running everyday, so that's what I do. Your workout routine is good because you have a mix of everything.

You're gorgeous! I'm training for the Chicago Marathon right now, so I'm running 4-5 days a week, but usually I try to build some rest days in there, too!
ReplyDeleteFirst thing's first, I love your workout outfit! So cute! And #2, I totally run so I won't be the slowest person in case of a zombie apocalypse because you never know, it could totally happen! I love that you said that you should listen to your body because the last thing you want to do is to injure yourself because you're overdoing it.
ReplyDeleteFirst off your shirt is perfect! I need to get in a better routine of working out more regularly. I always feel so much better when I do. Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteI have had to cut back from 6 days a week too, my body was yelling at me. You look amazing and the zombie thing is adding to my list of reasons why I need to get back to running!
ReplyDeleteI have been so lax this summer with my work out routine. Now that the kids are back in school I have a whole plan to stay in shape! Just need to stick to it now! Sounds like you have a good routine and you always look fabulous!

I do not like the gym one bit, so I am outside walking all the time. Also, I loooove your S'well bottle!

Yes girl! Your workout routine is very similar to mine... I have to get a good workout in on Saturday mornings so I feel better about all the calories and "beverages" I consume! :) I love taking classes... they kick my ass more than I kick my own!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your routine girlie. I love a bit of outside and inside workouts!
ReplyDeleteI like your fitness routine. You are absolutely right that we should listen to our bodies when we work out. I actually love going to gym.

Way to go, girlfriend! Loving that tank (I have it too and love it). I took a break from Pure Barre when planning for the store kicked in and I've been walking on the beach around 3 miles every day. It's not quite the same as an insane workout but it feels so nice to be outside and enjoying the weather!

That is great.. I am so bad at working out :(
ReplyDeleteGlad you found your balance with a workout schedule! I struggle finding motivation to hit the gym but love some at-home exercises and just getting outside to do some stretching/yoga and cardio! A cute workout outfits always helps to feel fabulous while you sweat it out xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous, so I say what you're doing is perfect. I like the idea of switching it up, I lack motivation but since I've lost weight I really feel so much better emotionally. I hope to be motivated and try things that will work for me after baby to continue to stay feeling good! Also, LOVE your tank!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a gym person so I love your ideas! I don't live close to Disney but I'm sure I can find something similar nearby that gets me out walking.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing others' workout routines. You definitely have it down girl! You look so great! It has been so hard to get back into a regular workout routine post-baby but slowly I am trying!
ReplyDeleteLove your tank-- and I always love reading about what other people to do stay in shape. My commute was walking literally everywhere one semester and I lost so much weight (without realizing it)-- such a good tip for anyone who doesn't care for the gym or more strenuous activity!
ReplyDeletebahahaha the first rule of Zombieland is cardio!!! so true though. i love reading about other people's workout routines so thank you for sharing. and um, can i look like you when i run?!
