Sequins and Sea Breezes: The Positivity Project

The Positivity Project

3/04/2015

Lately I've been feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and truthfully slightly down on myself. I had been at my previous job for years and had fallen into a routine that I was comfortable with and that was easy for me so starting a new job has left me feeling a bit lost on a schedule. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my new job. It's everything my previous job wasn't; stable, profitable, organized and so much more but it's tough figuring out a new schedule that works for me. Previously I was able to go to the gym at lunch, which freed up my evenings, I usually got up at 6:15 am but didn't have to be to work until 8 am and it was only a 20 minute drive so that left me with plenty of blogging and relaxing time in the morning, not to mention I wasn't always busy at work so I was able to get some blogging stuff done during the day. Now I get up at 5:30 am, leave my house by 6:30 am for my almost hour commute in, I spend my days busy doing awesome stuff before I begin my hour commute home (evening traffic is always busier). Some days I'll make it to the gym and some days I'm just too tired and skip it. But all of this has left me feeling in need of some positivity in my life so I figured no better time to join Amanda on this than now!

Wow, I realize now what a rant that was so I apologize and I'll try to keep the rest of this post less wordy. I just felt the need to back fill why I've been feeling the way I have lately so let's get on with it, shall we?

1. Tell me something you love about yourself
I love how motivated and determined I am. There have been numerous times where I've wanted to give up on something but I'm not a quitter so I always find a way to keep going. I'll admit, there have been times where I probably should have quit on something but I like seeing something through from start to finish. If we're talking physical.... I hear my legs are pretty nice!

2. Tell me what you want to work on
Finding more "me" time and being more organized again. I'm an extremely OCD person so when I don't have control over certain things (not everything, just some things) or when things don't go the way I want them to I have a tendency to freak out a bit. Being that I'm somewhat of a gym rat, not being able to get to the gym when I want has had me struggling with my body image and feeling comfortable with myself. I need to work on getting a schedule figured out so I can be more organized and more forgiving to myself when I miss a few days at the gym.

3. Give someone a compliment and mean it
This is a tough one. Not because I can't find anything nice to say about any one but because I'm having a hard time finding just one person to say something about. I have met so many amazing women through blogging and so many of you have been such amazing cheerleaders to me when I've been feeling down or going through something and so many of you inspire me to do things differently, to step outside my comfort zone and I love you all for those things. However for this, I'm going to go with the gorgeous Kristen.

Kristen, you are such an amazing person and you are so brave and honest. Even though we've never met in person I always feel like I can talk to you and you always have great advice.

4.  Tell me something that you are proud of, succeeded in or are just generally pumped about
My new job, for sure. It might be overwhelming trying to figure out a schedule but I absolutely love the work I'm doing now, I love the company I work for and the people are great. I was pretty unhappy at my last job and it carried over into my personal life occasionally. It's really nice to be proud of what I'm doing now and to go home at the end of the day exhausted but happy with everything I accomplished during the day.

  2. I love this project and I think it's perfect during those times that you need a little positivity push! I hope it gets easier for you to find a new routine that works for you--I'm a creature of habit and being off of my routine really throws me off sometimes too so I totally get it.

  11. Bahahaha! Girl! You DO have incredible legs!
Love this post!! You are so amazing! Give yourself time to adjust... you just made a major life change starting this job and it will take months to adjust and figure out your new routine! Give yourself some grace ;) I promise you'll adjust!!
(Now just remember to give me this same exact advice in a few months when I am begging for my new normal routine, and frustrated that I don't have it all together within a couple of weeks, ha!)

  14. GIRL, this is the perfect post for you right now! Sometimes when we get overwhelmed looking at the positives in our lives helps us realize it's one day at a time and the solution will present itself. I totally can understand the gym them. When I can't go during lunch it frustrates me to no end. Maybe look into some workouts you can do at home? There are tons of free ones online and I recommend Turbo Fire from Beachbody if you want to buy something.

I agree, Kristen is pretty awesome! Have a fabulous day, lady!

  20. Love this -- I have a new schedule because I've taken on new responsibility at work, and blogging, which is what I loveee doing, has taken a backseat, and I hate that. Definitely needed this dose of positivity! Love!

  21. Great post girl! You sound a lot like me, determined and controlling, but in a good way like type A personality. Sometimes it is a curse too, but it usually means we get shit done! I'm so happy for you that you are loving your new job! I'm sure you'll find some balance soon, its definitely an adjustment but good for you for making a change and doing something you really love!

  22. You definitely needed this post and I hope you reflect on it daily! We have very similar personalities so I am sitting here nodding my head at what you are saying about your schedule. It can be really frustrating, but you just have to take time for yourself and teach yourself not to be guilty over it. Xoxoxoxo

  23. awww I about teared up!!! You are so unbelievably sweet, seriously, gave me the warm and fuzzies <3 right back at you girl!

I am transitioning into a new role right now and already I am so much busier and don't have the time to blog during the day like I used to.. and I mean I shouldn't anyway because I'm paid to work, not blog, haha but it has left me feeling a little overwhelmed, when really I just need to adjust my expectations.

I'm sure you have thought of everything, but have you looked for a gym close to work? Maybe a planet fitness because they are cheap? My commute isn't long, 20 minutes, but when I lived in Sydney, I felt so frazzled all the time and not finding any 'me' time because I would get up at 530 to be at the gym by 6, I had to stop working out by 630 so I could shower and be on the road by 7am so I could get to work by 830... um, wtf? lol. So, I found a gym closer to work - I would get up at 6am, get to the gym just before 630, workout for an hour and some change, shower, and be at work 10 minutes later. It made the world of difference! Of course, then I would be lazy and not want to drive out near work on the weekends but you win some, you lose some. Also, my commute was mainly traffic so it was a matter of beating the traffic, rather than the distance. Anyway, you have probably thought about that or whatever but I just wanted to suggest it!

Thank you again for your lovely words, seriously made my day.. ok, it made my week. I think we are all too hard on ourselves, expecting so much out of ourselves until we just can't handle it anymore! I hope you are kinder to yourself and find some me time soon :)

And yes, your legs are KILLER fabulous. In a non creepy way ;)

  24. I always see you talk about taking the SunRail and I don't know how you do that commute! But if you love what you do, I assume the commute is a small price to pay! :)

  27. I love this positivity chain! Hang in there with the new job and I'm sure you'll be in a routine in no time!

  28. Finding a new routine is so hard, especially when you are limited in time. I'm so OCD and a control freak and feel the same way about the gym. It's hard to have things out of your control, but you are determined and driven and will figure it out! You got this girl!

  29. Love the quote from Steve Jobs... Even though the new schedule is probably hard to adjust to, you have so much to be thankful for! Hope you get to find your balance and make it all work for you. I struggle with the same life/work/blogging balance and sometimes it's best to take a break and reevaluate. Stay strong, positive, and beautiful as you are!
